Today the ERC is publishing the awardees of the Advanced Grant call and among them is our colleague Manuel Moreira whose project APATE has been funded.
APATE (A Primitive solar Atmosphere around The young Earth?) is a five-year project that will study the mechanisms driving the formation of the primordial terrestrial atmosphere: the dilemma between nebula or solar wind will be resolved. The main avenues of research will be the Neon isotopic composition of the Earth’s mantle, the magmatic degassing processes that will be examined experimentally and numerically, and understanding the solar wind irradiation in the first dusts in the solar system.
