Micromeritics Autopore IV 9500 series characterizes the porosity of a material by applying different levels of pressure to a sample immersed in mercury. The pressure required to carry the mercury into the pores of the sample is inversely proportional to the size of the pores (Laplace’s law).
Operating pressure 0-228 MPa (i.e. pore diameters between 360 and 0.006mm).
Objective :
characterize the porosity of a material
Treated samples :
soils, rocks
Pre-treatment :
drying of the sample at 105°C, grinding
Typical applications of the mercury porosimeter :
it can be found in the field of geosciences, ceramics, electronics, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, aerospace, etc.
