Notre Recherche en Géodynamique

Le travail de recherche mené au sein de l’équipe géodynamique se concentre principalement sur la compréhension de la déformation des matériaux crustaux (et mantelliques dans une moindre mesure) à toutes les échelles. Il s’appuie sur les deux pôles de compétences de l’équipe : D’une part la géologie de terrain, qui constitue l’expertise « historique », d’autre part une approche plus quantitative des processus de déformation, articulée autour de la déformation expérimentale (presse Paterson, presse de type « Griggs ») et du labo Ar-Ar (3 lignes de sprectroscopie).

Processus de déformation

Pour des échelles allant du grain à la zone de cisaillement kilométrique, cet axe de recherche vise à déterminer les connections entre mécanismes de déformation, réactions chimiques et transferts de fluides. En combinant l’étude d’objets naturels, les expériences de laboratoire (presses de Griggs et de Paterson) et la modélisation, nous nous attachons en particulier à décrire les propriétés de matériaux biphasiques, constitués d’une phase solide et d’une deuxième phase fluide (eau ou liquide magmatique).

Dynamique et couplages à l’échelle des plaques lithosphériques

A l’échelle des plaques lithosphériques, cet axe de recherche consiste en une description géométrique et cinématique de l’évolution des structures pendant les grands événements tectoniques tels que l’accrétion, la collision ou le rifting. Dans ce cadre, un des objectifs prioritaires est la mise en en évidence des processus de couplage, d’une part entre grandes enveloppes solides (lithosphère-asthénosphère) ou bien entre la déformation du solide et les autres « phases » (liquide magmatique + fluides).
