Former metallurgic sites and deposits are common in the EU landscape in many regions. Their regeneration provides an opportunity in terms of innovative circularity for raw materials. In order to reach this objective, the metallic materials (e.g. slags, metal bearing wastes) need to be well characterized, processed and recycled with the adapted techniques. In our study, non-invasive geophysical methods are tested to characterize the past deposits in terms of volume, type and grain sizes of recoverable metallic particles. Multi-method in situ geophysical data are interpreted together with lab experimentations, historical and desk data studies. The first results at the Pompey site (near Nancy, France) show a good potential for estimating depth of the interfaces between the anthropic deposits and the natural layers as well as geophysical contrasts linked with changes in the type and concentration of metallic particles. The next step is to test joint interpretation of the various geophysical data acquired and petrophysical model integration. Laboratory results and petrophysical models linking real and imaginary electrical conductivities (two geophysical parameters) to concentration and size of metallic particles will be discussed to this end.
